Chapter 01.6
"Alright, Jake, we understand," Marda said, picking up her weapon and leading the way with their bag of supplies over her shoulder. "Come on, you three, you heard the man. Let's move it."
"Sorry, Jake, for the suspicion, but this... I don't even know what this is and everything else. You can see why we were on edge, right?" Bard said, having to be content with a nod.
"Just where did you study your magic?" Mark asked as Holly dragged him across the room.
"Lingala," Jake said, seeing the blank look on Mark's face.
"How can that be?! I know of every school of magic on this continent, and I've never heard of Lingala..." His words died in his throat as he saw they were surrounded by the undead. Instantly, his staff was at the ready, noticing how his friends, minus Shion, weapons were in their hands, ready to defend themselves, yet as the seconds passed, they didn't press the attack. He and Holly shared a worried look, knowing something was wrong with the area.
"O' Enlighten One hear this wandering soul," Holly's eyes widen, her grip on her staff tightened as she saw the hand position as Jake walked through the doorway, "walk with me, light my way in the darkest of night," Holly's eyes darted down to the ground feeling the holiness of the site rising around her, "lead this lost soul through the forest of woe," recognition dawned in her mind as to what kind of chant Jake was using. It could only mean one thing to her. A holy relic! "Light my way and banish the corruption!" Jake spoke, glancing to his left when Holly chanted along with him as she thrusted out the head of her staff, forming a sphere of holy light that burned brightly.
"What in the nine hells is going on here?!" Bard uttered as they all watched in awe as light rose from the ground as far as he could see through trees.
"Jake, where the hell are we?!" Marda demanded she might not have the magical resistance her father's side has, she was attuned to it, nonetheless.
"The center of the Haunted Forest of Jura, my home," Jake said, seeing the befuddlement on their faces.
"Why?!" The question rolled out of Bard's mouth in a long draw.
"I like my solitude and who doesn't?" Jake uttered, shrugging his shoulders. He watched the light sink back into the land, knowing after tomorrow night, he would have to dig up the relic and move his anchor.
"Jake... that chant... how do you know it?" Holly asked, stunned that he knew such a high-level incantation of her temple.
"The cleric I hired to activate a relic. I had it taught to me to activate the relic's cleansing powers," Jake said, watching her eyes dance in her head as her mind. "But it can only be used once a month, so I used it now. Given area coverage it will take out most of his forces. Since he only awakens on the new moon of every moon due to his curse. So when we leave my anchor tonight our trek will most likely will be light when he will pull what remaining undead he has to the fort. He will know I'm coming."
"How do you know that?" Marda asked, wanting to ask many other questions yet something told her he wouldn't answer.
"The new moon is the only time you can actually kill it. Yes, I've tried it when it wasn't the new moon. All that did was waste potions and mana for him to rise again on the new moon," Jake said; the image of his foot shattering the knight's skull filled his mind. "I told you I have fought him enough."
"Jake, I don't mean to be rude, but may I inquire what kind of relic you acquired in your travels?" Holly asked, wondering if the temple knew of this.
"The hutch of some sister," Jake uttered, knowing she was fishing.
"The hutch of the virgin of grace, Sister Willow?" Holly stuttered, the words slipping freely from her lips. "I thought it was lost..."
"Yeah, the cleric acted just like you when I showed it to her," Jake said, pointing at her face. "I set up an area where you can rest until night," pointing over to it, "as long as you stay within the boundaries, you will be protected," he stated, waving his hand and showing them the edge of the artificial dimension of his anchor.
"Are you really just a battlemage because this is high-level magic on par with an archwizard of Pandaria," Mark stated, finally realizing what he had been feeling since exiting the doorway.
"What? You think such magic is only limited to simple magi?" Jake retorted. "If one can use magic, no matter who can cast the most mightiest of spells if you have the knowledge. Now, I'm not saying it would be on par with a normal wizard like you, but one such as I can create his own anchor point. Would have thought you knew that."
"True, that is rude of me, I apologize, yet I thought anchor points could only be created with spacial magic," Mark spoke, trying to suss out the man before him.
"Yes, but it's not hard to learn; if I can, anyone can," Jake answered. He noticed how Mark wanted to say something but held back.
"Jake, I apologize for my early behavior. This just means a lot to us; we all have fought hard to get here. I assume the reason for the threat was due to the magic you used, if Mark's reaction is any indicator of how rare it is. If that's the case, I can understand wanting to keep it to yourself. So, how far is the fort from here?" Marda asked, handing off the large sack to Bard, who carefully ambled over to the canopied area.
"Thirty minutes north of here," Jake said, pointing in its direction. He felt a hand on his arm, causing him to turn his head to find Holly holding onto his arm.
"Jake," Holly looked shyly away as her cheeks heated, "would... would you mind if I use your elven bath?" she asked; she'd always wanted to try one, given how Shion talked about them. "Please, I promise I will never tell a soul about this place..."
"You can tell them all you want. As soon as it's killed, I'm moving my anchor elsewhere," Jake said, waving her off.
"Jake, I'll show her the way," Shion said, lightly resting her hand on Jake's upper arm. Lifting her hand, holding it out as Jake told her to, a curious look appeared on her face at the elven crystal charging tool in the palm of her hand.
"It's charged; just hold it up to the center of the crystal; you know the rest," Jake instructed, watching Shion nod.
Jake was meditating as the others ambled around his domain, making sure to stay within his influence. His right eye inched open as Mark took the southern position of the meditative circle, also known as the Southern Tower of Fire. He felt Mark's own mana filling the circle, casting their consciousness high into the astro plane.
"Forgive me, Jake, for entering your meditation without asking, yet it's been some time since I've done this with a friend. You know how dangerous it is for us in this state," Mark spoke within their phantom realm. Where all stray thoughts were wicked away by the place and broadcasted to those around them. Ignoring how Jake looked at him in that place, what held him enthralled was how calm the plane was. He knew it took decades to master. "Jake, just who are you?" he asked, knowing there was no way he could have accomplished what Jake had told him and shown him with how young Jake seemed to be.
"I've told you who I am," Jake replied, noting how Mark slyly glanced around, looking for any imperfection in the realm, seeing how one couldn't lie within it.
"Okay, but you certainly aren't a man who looks like he's in his early twenties," Mark countered which got an amused smirk out of Jake.
"That might be true, but you won't pry it out of my lips."
"Wasn't trying to, just trying to ascertain how you can be this strong! Not even my master after my schooling had access to a teleportation spell; I can count on my hand just how many people in the world have that kind of spell," holding up four fingers, "I've never seen an anchor outside the archwizardary before! I believe if my master witnessed all of this, he would die of envy," Mark chuckled. "Now, may I help you with your mental construction you were working on?" He felt his smile forming when Jake waved him on. "Wooo!" he sighed as he blew out a breath. "That... was enlightening, Jake," Mark said in praise as he leaned back on his arms as they came out of their meditative state. "You seem to be glowing," he stated, noticing how relaxed Holly and Shion looked as they stood over them.
"Thank you so much, Jake; your bath was the most sublime thing I have ever experienced," Holly said excitedly as she bowed to him. Jake got to his feet, and Shion handed over the charging tool to him.
"Is it really that good?" Mark asked as he and Holly ambled over the area Jake had set up for them.
"Got something for you," Jake said, seeing the confusion on Shion's face.
"What did you get me?" Shion asked as she followed him into his house, stopping in her tracks when he told her to stay there before heading down into his basement. Her ears twitched when she heard something very familiar to her she took it as someone drawing a bow. Her legs hurried after his words when he told her to come down. Her eyes grew in their greediness at the sight of the dragon bone bow in his hand. She was at his side in an instant. "Jacob... is that for me?" Shion asked, ignoring the bundle on the floor by his right foot. Her fingertips played along his chest as she pressed her own against his left side.
"Do I look like an archer?" Jake retorted he wasn't expecting the kiss, but he wasn't going to push her away. Her daggers while complete, he was still working on their sheaths.
"What's the string made out of?" Shion asked as she tested out the full draw of her new bow.
"Dragon guts braided together," Jake stated over the thump of the string as she brought her fingers to her nose and sniffed.
"What?!" Shion stammered, getting an eyeroll out of Jake. "Jake, you said you were moving your anchor, whatever that means; where are you planning on going?"
"Thinking of seeing Eslar if I remember correctly, been a few years, it'll be lovely this time of the year. Perfect place for Adam to grow up without worrying about monsters since you know your people keep the forest clean of them," Jake said, watching how Shion's ears twitched rapidly in her excitement.
"Jake, does that mean... you have the seal of blood?" Shion asked, knowing that was the only thing outsiders are given to be allowed to own land in Dark Elven lands.
"I do; I lived in the western Estaran dukedom for twenty years or so before venturing northward to the Ice Elves' domain. Not a very friendly bunch," Jake spoke as he walked up the stairs. He turned when Shion's hands took hold of his.
"Please, Jake, allow me to come with you and Adam," Shion uttered with pleading eyes. "I know you have that spell and can come and go as you please. But I haven't been home in seventy-five years. I know my people, my land, and it will be the perfect place to raise a family."
"Thought you were living with your friends?" Jake replied, arching an eyebrow.
"Please, Jake, don't make me beg; it's unbecoming of my elder," Shion said with a flirtatious smile. Over the weeks, she's come to really enjoy seeing her necklace adorning his body. "You never had a problem with me staying over before."
"Yeah, but those..." His eyes darted down, zeroing in on his hand as Shion placed it on her right breast, allowing him to feel their shape.
"I think you know what I'm inferring, don't you, Jacob," Shion cut in, her voice was sweet and alluring.
"I can take a guess," Jake muttered, feeling her nipple hardening beneath his touch.
"After all," she cooed heatedly, giving his hand a little roll, "Adam needs a mother, and I've grown very fond of him," Shion said dreamily.
"We'll discuss this later when there aren't other people here," Jake said, continuing his trek upward. "Grab those bottles and follow me," he directed, pointing to the wine bottles. While he would be happy to supply Marda with drink, he just didn't have kegs on hand for that. However, from what he had told her before she left her village after she came of age, she was given her magical wine skin so she would constantly have a drink should she find herself hunted.
The moment they were outside Shion made a dash for her arrows and pulled out one of her steel armor-piercing arrows. She infused the bow with a bit of her mana, her eyes inched wider as arcs of electricity danced along the length of the bone. The moment her fingers released their hold on the nock of the arrow, a high-pitched whistle resounded before digging itself through the tree she was aiming at and twenty more yards before it found its home in the knuckle of the root of the red elm tree. Shion just stared dumbfounded at the sight before her as her arms and weapon hung loosely at her side. Shion wasn't the only one who was awestruck as the others looked on.
"I knew the moment we teamed up; your weapons weren't at the level you were aiming for. So in order for me, and you, to come out of this alive. I made these for you," Jake said, laying down the bundle by them and handing out the weapons.
"The... power I feel from this staff," Mark said in awe as flames wicked at the edges of the leather grip.
"By the heavens," Holly whispered as her gaze was pulled into the center of the crystal orb that lay atop the staff. The holy mana that had been accumulated within its crystalline structure shone brightly out to her as it was held in a latticework of bone fused together with magic.
"I'd advise only using your weakest spells first; dragon bone takes time to get used to when dealing with mana," Jake warned. "So if you want to practice, fire them off towards the south; his minions will be coming from that way. You'll have to get a sheath made for yours." Watching as the two of them ran in the direction he pointed to.
"Yeah," Bard muttered in a far-off daze as he stared at the blade of his new sword. "Will it work like all the others?"
"Do you know how to channel mana, or have any for that matter?" Jake asked, seeing the blankness in Bard's eyes.
"Don't worry, I'll help you," Mark said, coming up to his friend's side. "It'll be hard, so bear with it." He nodded in agreement to use some of his own mana to show Bard what kind of effect would happen. Mark hid his mirth at how his dear friend looked like a child with star-strewn eyes at the sight of the flames along the blade of the sword.
"We should eat the hour of midnight grows near," Jake said as the forest had already begun to darken as the afternoon inched to its end.
"But I thought you said on the new moon, that's not until tomorrow," Marda spoke, thinking they had until tomorrow to get the lay of the land.
"Just because he can't do a thing until the new moon, he'll know I'm coming, and he will force the door open... you'll see," Jake said, knowing it would be easier for them to see it than to explain it to them.
Midnight that night...
"Told you," Jake spoke as the five of them stared up at the moon that could be seen from the clearing they were in watching how the words of power thundered throughout the forest. They all watched as the last sliver of moonlight was blocked out by the shadow that grew along its argent surface. "Holly do you know how the spell wandering light?"
"Yes, of course," Holly nodded; she wasn't about to fail on this quest.
"Could you cast them around us," pointing out where he wanted them, "that should keep most of the lesser undead away until we get to the fort," Jake said, nodding in satisfaction at the light's placement. "I'll take point since I know the way, Marda. Watch our backs."
"Leave it to me," Marda stated, taking hold of the conjured shield Jake had made for her as her arm slipped through the constructed straps before lifting it off the ground and slinging her hammer from her back.
"Bard, Shion, protect our flank; I'll keep a steady pace but not enough to drain our stamina; you already for this; once we leave my anchor, there's no going back," Jake warned one last time, seeing their resolve he took the first step in ending the curse. He didn't care about how much noise they were making. The moment they left his anchor, the fiend's eyes were already on them. So there was no use in the stealthy approach. And so began their jog; their blades flew through the air as they dealt with whatever undead approached them that wasn't stopped by Holly's spell. He heard Marda's howls of joy as she shield bashed a large swath of undead sending them flying all so Mark could practice his flame javelin spell. Who quickly put out the fires it caused due to the increase of the staff's effect it had on his spells.
"Stick to simple spells, Mark, I'd rather not run through the forest in soaked robes," Holly bemoaned, her face rapidly heated when Mark said: 'What's wrong with that?' causing her to stammer out a sputtering response.
Bard just blinked rapidly into space as he had just dispatched a skeleton before him. He was in complete awe of the weapon in his hand. He had never used a weapon like the one in his hands at that moment. It felt to him as he sliced through the old, rusted iron armor of the skeleton wasn't even there.
Shion's silver hair floated in the air as she picked off the undead with her bow, going through her supply of cheap arrows. She knew if there were archers in his undead army, she didn't need to worry too much, but she did make her shots count. All the while, she was keeping an eye on Jake. To her, it seemed he took great pleasure in taunting the Death Knight through his minions as he dangled the finger in front of them before Jake would end its unnatural life. She pondered on just what kind of history the two of them have for Jake to take on such a demeanor.
"Well, we're here," Jake said as he stared at the portcullis of the fort, throwing up a conjured shield wall to block the arrows the undead were firing at them.
"Mark, can you get me up that wall?" Shion asked, knowing the first task was to get the iron gate open.
"Sure can," Mark said, getting into his stance to aid his friend as Shion raced towards the fort's walls.
"I'll provide covering fire," Jake said, conjuring a bow, and simultaneously fired off five arrows at the undead he could see on the away. "Bard, Marda, watch our flanks. He keeps a pack of skeleton wolves and uses them when under siege. Holly, if you see a black cloud rising around us, use your purification," he directed; he wasn't about to lose, not this time. Mallock was definitely going to die for real that night. He had no idea how the man got cursed, nor did he care. This was simply petty revenge for the humiliation he had suffered from their battles.
"Right, Bard, guard their right; I'll cover the rear and left flank," Marda stated, taking up her defensive stance.
"O' Holy light, fill this cursed place with your divine touch!" Holly shouted as she delivered judgment down onto the rampart before Shion bounded onto it.
Shion breath came out steady as she took aim as she ran. Her feet almost became rooted to the stone as the unholy roar thundered from somewhere deep within the fort. She was able to finally shake off the fear barely missing the blade of the battleaxe before it clanged on the stone. Its existence just disintegrated before her eyes as Jake's blade set their remains on fire.
"Hit the floor," Jake ordered, his wands rapidly firing off their charged mana, quickly draining his own. "Go open the gate. The others are already to storm the place," he said, wiping the remaining bits of potion that dribbled down the left side of his face. "I'll go hold him off while you all secure the courtyard, and we'll implement our plan," Jake spoke the seriousness of his tone set a fire under Shion.
"Right, be careful," Shion uttered before the two parted. She stilled in the stairwell door when she felt a surge in Jake's mana.
"Shion, stop gawking, the time for holding back is over. Now go," Jake uttered; his body enhancements sent him flying towards the great hall of the crumbling fort. His helmet shimmered into existence around his head, signifying the deathliness of his opponent. His sword clanged against his conjured shield, voicing his challenge to his old opponent.
"Little mouse, finally come to die?!" the old knight mocked as he forced his essence into his old, dried body. Jake took a steadying breath knowing just defending was going to be a challenge.
"You know I clapped her cheeks, right?" Jake taunted, dangling the finger from his own. Laughing evilly at how the old knight howled in rage. Not that he had never even met the woman. However, just the thought was enough to enrage the dead man. His sword cut through his armor only to watch its unholy magic knitting it back together, grunting as his shield caught the brunt of the fiend's attack, sending him flying backwards into the wall. He used his magic push to fling him out of harm's way as the spiked balls of its flail struck where he once was, causing sparks to leap off the stone. Jake chanted loudly as he read off a scroll he had paid a lot of money for from a greedy cleric. He didn't know it was a summoning scroll as he stared at what he took to be an angel or at least an angel-like creature, the cleric just said powerful holy magic. He didn't have to say a thing as the creature attacked the Death Knight readily.
As the creature held the knight bound, Jake leapt onto the fiend's back. He knew how stupid this was, but as he already admitted to himself this was just pettiness on his part. The sound of the cork popping as he was poised to use the holy water. Jake held onto the bucking bronco as the knight roared as the holy water weakened him. It wasn't enough to kill it; the curse was too strong for that, and the Death Knight commanded too many souls for simple holy water to cleanse. However, it would piss the creature off to no end, and Jake knew it.
"Hey asshole, this what you want?" Jake taunted, dangling the finger before the man's eyes. "Here, let me wash it for you," he hissed evilly as Jake dosed it in holy water and shoved it into the man's mouth. He quickly got out of the flail's reach as the knight swung it about wildly as holy fire engulfed the man's mouth. "That's for the leg, asshole," Jake uttered with a sinister smile on his lips.
"Coraline! Coraline! Why!" Jake just looked at it in confusion as it just shouted out. Nonetheless, he knew what was coming next as its form began to grow as the Death Knight absorbed the dark energy that surrounded the fort. "I'm going to drink out of your skull!" the enraged knight roared his murderous threat. With that, Jake knew the knight would come for his head.
"He's coming!" Jake called out as he ran out of the building, ducking his head as Marda's swing was in play.
Marda fought through the fear the knight produced as she followed through as the fiend burst through what remained of the door. A heavy thud followed as the knight caught it squarely on its shield. Her arm went numb from the impact of the balls of its flail. Bard darted through Marda's legs to get below the knight's guard.
"O' Enlighten one, hear my call," Holly began her chant to cleanse the beast of the curse or at least inflict enough damage to weaken it to the point of finishing it off for good. "Lift this sickness that infects the land. Shone your holy light on this twisted land." Her voice grew as her prayer grew as she heard Mark firing off spell after spell to provide her cover. Holly's blood grew cold at how final the Death Knight's scream was as she cast her cleansing spell on him. As the light faded, their cheers filled the air, thinking they had won as the knight's body crumbled to dust when they knew not the danger they were in.
"What are you doing?!" Jake moved quickly to trap the knight's spirit. He could have easily defeated the body, and he has many times, yet he had nothing to anything kill the beast since he wasn't a cleric. "This isn't over; that's just a husk, nothing more!" he stated as he tried to encase the spirit in a barrier of his mana. Mark quickly caught on, easily entrapping the spirit before it could sneak away. "That's the Knight, that's his real body. Holly, can you end him for good?" Jake asked, already struggling to keep the spirit contained. Shion and Bard were feeding him and Mark mana potions to keep the barrier up as Holly exorcised the monster. Which, as you can surmise, did not wish to go quietly into the good night. So with some, one could say sadistic, nudging Holly sent the spirit to the afterlife where it belongs. Once the spirit was gone, they watched as its minions fell apart, now that its magic was no longer fueling their remains. The sickly, dark, cold aura that once surrounded the area lifted, and the sounds of life began to creep back into the forest. His boots resounded on the stone as he walked up the stairs. His floating werelight lit his way as the man's magic crumbled into the ether. The years of their struggle to kill one another played out in his mind as he knelt down and plucked a very well-known item, the Dark Emperor was known for from the remains of the knight's body.
"Well..." Their five sets of eyes peered up at him, "I believe we earned our reward," Jake said, showing off the dangling pendant, causing the five of them to howl in joy.
Marda and Bard strutted along the road leading the way into town after they rested at Jake's anchor for a few hours to recoup from the hard-fought battle. Mark and Holly were chatting away like mad at how they would be more of a use to their party now that they were moving up in the ranks. Shion walked hand in hand with Jake knowing once they had reported to the Guild Master. She and Adam would be packing up and leaving for Eslar. She had already informed her friends. Also telling them they would still operate together as a party. Jake had handed Mark a small glass orb. What it did, she didn't know since she wasn't a mage, yet she saw how Mark was studying it, so she knew it had to be rare.
Adam was biting into the sausage roll he had just bought for his breakfast before he started on his chores. He hoped he could get them done before Jake and Shion returned. He wanted to make the two of them proud. He just hoped they would return soon and that they weren't hurt. There he stood, his foot hung in the air, his roll hanging by a tooth as he saw them. Sheer joy appeared on his face; his roll bounced and skipped on the ground before the nearest street dog snatched it up. His brown hair streamed behind him as he raced towards them. The three of them shared hugs as they greeted each other. Adam wrapped his arms around Jake's forehead as he rode on his shoulders as he chatted happily down at a smiling Shion.
"Adam, we need to talk, but it isn't bad, okay, just different, but I need you to head home and get your things sorted, that is, if you want to live with Shion and me permanently," Jake said, kneeling down in front of Adam as they stood in front of the Guild Hall.
"You mean it?!" Adam asked in a squeal.
"I do, but only if you want to. but we'll talk more once my business with the Guild is over, alright?" Jake spoke, seeing the happiness in Adam's eyes before he took off towards the party's home.
"Come, let's get our new plates; he's going to be so excited when we get back," Shion said, to which Jake agreed as the six of them approached the side entrance to the Guild.
A runner went to fetch Marlin from her chambers when the old man saw them returning from the forest. He sighed out in relief when they returned safely, at least from what he saw.
"What happened?! You're back too early?!" Marlin stated, thinking it would take days of fighting to end the fiend for good, not overnight!
"Did you doubt we would lose?" Jake asked cockily as the pendant swung between his fingers.
"My chambers, I need to know everything," Marlin demeaned; if she was to report to the King, she needed to know everything to prove to the King that the monster was indeed dead. "I see; it seems you six had a hard fight," she said, eyeing the new weapons the five of them seem to be supporting. Her eyes flickered over to her office door when it inched open.
"You called for me, Guild Master?" Maston asked, entering the room.
"Yes, I need identification on this," Marlin said, holding the item out to him. "I need to know if it came from the Dark Emperor."
"I'll work as quickly as I can," Maston said with a nod. He knew the Guild would take a cut while the bulk would go to the six of them.
"Give me those," Marlin ordered, gesturing to their silver plates. "I trust you all to know you wouldn't try to lie to me. Given we will be checking the forest. However, you six have done something parties before you couldn't pull off. You earn these," she said, holding out six hanging golden plates. "I'll give you all a week off to celebrate and relax. But when you all get back, I will be working you to the bone. After all, you are my first six Gold-ranks!" Jake closed the door when Marlin's voice called him out, asking him to stay behind and shut the door. "So... the Hero of the past..."
"Don't call me that," Jake cut her off.
"Seems there's a story behind why you're still alive after two hundred years, but I'm not going to ask. I never intended to expose your past to anyone," seeing the relief in his body language as his shoulders sagged, "as long as you follow my rules, we won't have a problem, but prepare yourself now that I know who you truly are. I will give you the more dangerous quests," Marlin said, seeing the smirk he flashed her over his shoulder.
"I would do the same thing in your shoes," Jake said, exiting the room.
"I sense a change in the wind," Marlin muttered to the now empty room.
It was late afternoon as Jake rolled up with two wagons to haul all of Shion's and Adam's belongings. The second one being hooked directly to the rear of the first wagon. Bard and Marda helped Jake load up the wagons while Adam ran around like a child should at such times. Shion was hugging her friends goodbye, knowing this was the end of an era and the start of another. With their belongings stored and their goodbyes said. Jake flicked the reins of the team of four horses beginning their trek towards Eslar. Where Jake hoped for once he would actually have a stable marriage and family.
Two months later...
"You're not going to believe this," a male voice said as he laid down a paper from a town over hundreds of miles from them. The only reason he even cared was to show Celine it was time to move on since Jake clearly had.
"Believe what..." Celine's voice died in her throat as her eyes stilled on Jake's name. She knew it was her Jake since there was no one else in their world with the surname Diaz. Her mind began to race as she pondered how she was going to get him back. There was no way she was going to miss out on a child with that amount of mana. She knew a child like that would warrant her compulsion to return back to her village. Where she and her child would be greeted like returning heroes. She knew her father would be greatly pleased to know she bore the family such an offspring.
Her demeanor changed as she noted how Jake would be at the capital. Her eyes danced around as her mind raced. Plans upon plans rapidly formed, only for her to discard them and others take their place. She knew she had much to do and many miles to travel to reach the capital just to attend the party the King was throwing for him and the party he was with for taking down one of the higher sought bounties the kingdom had had out for ages.
She always knew she had to tiptoe around Jake because she knew just how deadly he was. What she was sure of was to make their battlefield other than the actual battlefield. Something she knew she wouldn't survive. Celine wasn't about to lose. She wasn't going to lose to a human. All she needed was for her father to get her an invitation. Then, it was only a matter of time and Jake would be hers again.
Epilogue
