They slowly and tenderly bathe each other before heading to bed. Both kids join Alice in her bed until she falls asleep with a smile painted beautifully on her face. Then Allie and Adam retreat to Adams' room, and Allie joins her husband in his bed. Cuddled up in bed with Adam on his back, Allie curled up onto his left side. Allie looked at her wedding ring, staring at it and wishing it was true. She pulls Adams' arm around her interlacing her fingers with his so that both rings gleam together in the moonlight through the window.
She looks at Adam. He feels her gaze on him, and he looks at her bringing his eyes down from the ceiling. Locking eyes with Allie, he senses she has a question burning in her but feels her shivering. He waits for her to speak, knowing her so well she won't say anything until she is ready.
Allie takes a deep breath and then asks, "Adam, would you really marry me if we could? I didn't think I could love you any more than I do already, but when we bought these rings today..." She pauses, afraid to go on but knows if she doesn't tell him, she will regret it. "When you put the ring on me like we were actually married, I was so happy. Then I held myself back, thinking, 'It's just a prop, Allie, just something to support our story of being newlyweds looking for a new place together.' I know I really love you like that, Adam. Do you love me like that too?" Adam sees how earnest and scared she is. He knows he feels the same and wasn't sure how to ask her the same thing.
So instead of saying anything, he carefully gets up from the bed and stands beside it. Allie, still a little scared, wonders what he is doing. Then Adam reaches out and takes her hand, her left hand in his left. He then gets down on one knee and says, "Yes, Allie, I love you that way too. Will you marry me and be my wife for real?"
Allie gasps, sitting frozen. Adam stays there waiting for what feels like hours but only a minute. Allie begins to cry the happiest tears of her life and whispers, "Yes, Adam. I would truly love to be your wife."
Adam climbs back into bed and holds the shaking Allie before kissing her so tenderly he isn't sure he made contact until Allie kisses him back just as tenderly. Allie breathed a deep sigh of relief, not realizing that she had been holding her breath. They cuddle back in as they were, hands overlapping again, this time with Adam holding his wife's hand in his fingers intertwined again. They listen to each other's breathing and heartbeats, and they fall asleep like that, both with smiles on their faces.
